Specialist Paediatric Dietitian: Food Allergies & Feeding Difficulties

Brief Profile

Wendy Birks is a highly experienced clinical dietitian with over 40 years’ experience in paediatric and adult nutrition. She worked for 18 years at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, where she was the Allergy Dietitian within the Department of Allergy and Immunology and also part of the multidisciplinary Feeding Clinic team where she provided dietetic advice for children with complex medical conditions and a range of nutritional issues such as picky eating behaviours, sensory feeding conditions, tube feeding and tube weaning.

Wendy has extensive experience supporting infants and children with food allergies, feeding difficulties and general paediatric nutrition. Wendy’s aim is to help children reach their growth potential through balanced nutrition without compromising the pleasure associated with eating.  She works closely with paediatric allergists and immunologists to help families manage complex allergy diets while ensuring good nutrition and practical, positive mealtime routines.

Wendy is passionate about helping families feel confident managing their child’s diet and food allergies. She is also a committee member of the ASCIA Dietitians Group and contributes to training and mentoring dietitians in allergy nutrition.
